Prof. Cédric John
Principal Investigator
Cédric John is Professor of AI for Earth Sciences in the College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University. He and his team work on computer vision and deep learning for subsurface geology (interpret cores, well logs, seismic images), Earth Observation (satellite imagery on Earth and Mars), and deep learning for scientific simulations (digital twins and surrogate models). Before joining OSU, Professor John was a faculty member at Imperial College London (2008–2024), where he remains a Visiting Professor, and at the AI Institute (DERI) at Queen Mary University of London (2024–2026). He holds continuing Visiting Professorships at both institutions. He is an Editor of the Journal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation (AGU). Professor John's computational work is grounded in two decades of field carbonate sedimentology, marine geology and advanced stable-isotope geochemistry.
